Increase in Apprehension of Middle Eastern Nationals Raises Security Concerns at US Southern Border

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has apprehended four Iranians in Texas this month, classifying them as "special interest aliens" due to their origin from countries associated with terrorism or national security threats. One Iranian man in his 40s surrendered to border protection agents after illegally crossing the southern border in Eagle Pass. Last week, two Lebanese nationals, also considered "special interest aliens," were apprehended in the same area. Additionally, CBP has detained an Egyptian man and multiple Iranians and Syrians in separate incidents. Concerns over security and potential terrorism have risen following recent attacks by Hamas in Israel. The Department of Homeland Security warns of the possibility of terrorists exploiting the current border situation to enter the United States.
