Violations of International Humanitarian Law Evident in Gaza Attacks, Says UN Official

Philippe Lazzarini, the commissioner-general of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, has condemned the recent attacks on U.N. relief locations in the Gaza Strip, stating that they demonstrate a disregard for international humanitarian law. Lazzarini revealed that around 70 U.N. locations, housing over 1 million people, have been targeted since the conflict began, resulting in the deaths and injuries of U.N. staff members. He called for an investigation into the responsible parties, emphasizing the blatant disregard for U.N. premises and the civilian population. Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced the release of 17 people, including 14 Israelis and three foreign nationals, who were held captive by Hamas in Gaza.
