Wagner Group deserter detained in Norway for attempting return to Russia

Norwegian police have arrested Andrei Medvedev, a former commander of the Wagner mercenary group, on suspicion of attempting to illegally cross the border back into Russia after seeking asylum in Norway earlier this year. Medvedev, who escaped Russia in January, has described running as Russian guards fired shots at him. His arrest was due to a misunderstanding, according to his lawyer, who stated that Medvedev was stopped while trying to locate the place where he crossed into Norway and had no intention of crossing back into Russia. Medvedev had sought asylum in Norway due to fears for his life after witnessing mistreatment of Russian prisoners in Ukraine.
