Hamas' armed wing, al-Qassam brigades, stated that seven hostages held in Gaza were killed due to Israeli military bombardment, bringing the total number of hostages killed to over 70. This comes in response to Hamas militants' killing of 1,200 people in southern Israel and the abduction of at least 250. Israel has conducted a military assault on the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of more than 30,000 Palestinians, while a truce in late November led to the release of over 100 Israeli and foreign hostages in exchange for the release of about 240 Palestinian prisoners.
