"Jerusalem Tensions Escalate Amid Nationalist Flag March and Gaza Conflict"
TL;DR
Thousands of Israeli religious nationalists paraded through the Muslim quarter of Jerusalem's Old City during the annual Flag Day march, leading to clashes with Palestinian residents and leftwing activists. The event, which marks Israel's capture of East Jerusalem in 1967, is seen as provocative by Palestinians and has previously sparked violence, including the 2021 Israel-Hamas war. This year's march, overseen by far-right national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, saw heightened tensions and a heavy police presence, with several arrests and incidents reported.
