China and Russia Forge Closer Ties as G7 Urges Beijing to Influence Moscow

European Council President Charles Michel will urge China at the United Nations Security Council to play a more active role in pushing Russia towards a "just peace" in Ukraine. In his draft speech, Michel will call for a resolution that respects the U.N. Charter and its core principles, emphasizing the importance of territorial integrity. China's vice foreign minister is scheduled to speak at the meeting, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is expected to attend as well. China has previously abstained from votes demanding Russia's withdrawal from Ukraine, but has expressed support for respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries.
