China Steps in to Support Solomon Islands Budget Amid Criticism of Australia and US

China has agreed to provide budget support to the Solomon Islands after Australia and other traditional development partners withdrew promised funding. Solomon Islands' Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, criticized Australia and the US for their concerns over the country's policing pact with China, stating that China was a welcomed additional security ally. While Australia denied withdrawing development funding, Sogavare claimed that some donor partners had reneged on their commitments. He emphasized the need for the Solomon Islands to reduce dependency on foreign assistance and expressed his country's desire for honest cooperation and partnership with all nations.
