China's Influence on Media Freedom and International Relations

China is urging countries to boycott a British-organized event at the United Nations in Geneva on media freedom in Hong Kong, according to a letter circulated among diplomats. The event, titled 'Media Freedom in Hong Kong,' is being held on the sidelines of the U.N. Human Rights Council. China's mission asked countries to refrain from participating, stating that Hong Kong-related issues are China's internal affairs. Despite China's efforts, at least 22 countries, including the United States, France, and Germany, have co-sponsored the event. Diplomatic tensions between China and Britain have been running high, with Britain recently releasing a report criticizing the extension of Beijing's national security law in Hong Kong.
