Escalating Tensions: Ukraine's Fears of Russia's Advanced Missile Threats

Russia is escalating its nuclear threats as Ukrainian forces make advances in a counteroffensive to reclaim territory seized during the war. Russian parliament member Andrey Gurulyov suggested on state TV that a southeastern settlement recently recaptured by Ukrainian forces is a potential target for a tactical nuclear strike. The use of nuclear weapons has been a recurring topic throughout the conflict, with Russian President Vladimir Putin stating his willingness to use them to defend Russian territory. Other figures in Kremlin-backed media have also advocated for nuclear strikes against Ukraine. Additionally, Russia has deployed tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus as a response to the "aggressive behavior" of Western neighbors. The Russian Foreign Ministry has outlined conditions under which it would resume nuclear weapons testing, including if the United States does so first.
