Estonia Urges EU to Fulfill Ammunition Promise for Ukraine

Estonia is concerned about the slow progress of the European Union in increasing ammunition supplies to Ukraine, fearing that internal politics of member nations may hinder the process. Estonia, a key initiator of the EU plan to deliver 1 million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine by March 2024, is urging nations to fulfill their commitments. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has called for increased production of 155mm artillery shells to repel Russian forces. The current number of shells delivered is 300,000. Estonia highlights the lack of significant orders for ammunition in previous years and the struggle of some nations to meet NATO's 2% defense spending target as contributing factors. The secrecy surrounding Ukraine support and domestic production increases also hampers coordination among member nations. Estonia sees Ukraine's defense as crucial to its own security, as a victorious Moscow could potentially target the Baltics next.
