EU Parliament Condemns Baku for Ethnic Cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh

The European Parliament has accused Azerbaijan of carrying out "ethnic cleansing" against Armenian residents in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region and called for EU member states to impose sanctions on Baku. Azerbaijan denies the claim and pledges to respect the rights of ethnic Armenians, but most of the population has fled since Azerbaijan regained control of the region. The resolution, approved by the European Parliament, also calls for a reduction in EU dependency on gas exports from Azerbaijan and a review of relations with the country. However, European diplomats have stated that sanctions are not currently being considered.
