Historic Shift: Russia Loses UN World Court Seat, South African Judge Appointed

Russia has lost its seat in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the first time since the court's establishment in 1946. Kirill Gevorgian, the Russian judge who joined the ICJ in 2015, failed to win reelection. This leaves the court without a representative from Russia or the USSR. The five judges who won the recent election include representatives from Romania, the United States, Mexico, South Africa, and Australia.
