Iran seizes second oil tanker in Gulf waters, US Navy reports

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) seized a Panama-flagged oil tanker, Niovi, in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, the second such seizure in less than a week. The US Navy's Fifth Fleet called the seizure an "unlawful seizure" and contrary to international law. The seizure comes amid increasing tensions between the US and Iran, with attacks on oil vessels in the Gulf waters on the rise. The US Navy did not receive a distress call from the Niovi, but a US fixed-wing unmanned aircraft patrolling over the strait witnessed the IRGC seizure.
