Lithuania Implements Border Measures Amid Belarus Tensions

Lithuania has decided to temporarily close two of its checkpoints with Belarus amid growing tensions and concerns over the presence of Russia-linked Wagner group mercenaries in Belarus. The crossings at Tverecius and Sumskas will be closed, with traffic diverted to the Medininkai border checkpoint. Latvia has also mobilized additional border guards due to a sharp increase in the hybrid threat at the Latvian-Belarusian border. Both countries have seen an influx of migrants from Belarus, and neighboring Poland has deployed troops to its border with Belarus as tensions escalate.
