Lithuania Implements Temporary Border Closure with Belarus Amid Tensions

Lithuania has decided to temporarily close two of its checkpoints with Belarus amid growing tensions and concerns over the presence of Russia-linked Wagner group mercenaries in Belarus. The crossings at Tverecius and Sumskas will be closed, with traffic diverted to the Medininkai border checkpoint. Latvia has also mobilized additional border guards due to a sharp increase in the hybrid threat at the Latvian-Belarusian border. Poland has deployed thousands of troops to its border with Belarus as tensions between the two neighbors escalate.
