Russian War Crimes Suspect May Address U.N. Security Council

Russia's commissioner for children's rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court on war crimes charges, is expected to brief an informal meeting of the U.N. Security Council this week on evacuating children from the conflict zone in Ukraine. The ICC has accused Lvova-Belova and Russian President Vladimir Putin of illegally deporting hundreds of children from Ukraine and unlawfully transferring people to Russia from Ukraine since Moscow invaded in February 2022. The meeting has been criticized by some members, who argue that Russia lacks credibility on the issue.
