UK Donates Mine-Hunting Ships to Strengthen Ukraine's Navy

Britain has delivered two mine-hunting ships to Ukraine, renamed Chernihiv and Cherkasy, as part of efforts to bolster Ukraine's maritime capabilities in the Black Sea. The delivery comes ahead of a summit in London aimed at forming a "maritime capability coalition" for Ukraine. While the UK has committed £4.6bn of military aid since Russia's invasion in 2022, there is no immediate plan for further aid beyond April 2024. The US remains the largest donor of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, but doubts have arisen about the long-term commitment of the West.
