Foreign Diplomats and Nationals to be Evacuated from Sudan Amidst Violence

Sudan's army chief, Gen. Abdel Fattah Burhan, has said he will help evacuate foreign citizens and diplomats from the country on military aircraft. The move comes as the fighting between the Sudanese army and a rival paramilitary group enters its second week. Most major airports have become battlegrounds, and movement out of the capital, Khartoum, has proven intensely dangerous. The US has said it has no plans for a government-coordinated evacuation of the estimated 16,000 American citizens trapped in Sudan.
