NZ veteran killed in Ukraine fighting against Russian forces.

Kane Te Tai, a New Zealand veteran who led an elite unit in Ukraine and helped rescue a prisoner of war, was killed on the front lines by Russian soldiers. Te Tai, whose code name was "Turtle," documented his time on the front lines on social media and frequently shared what fighting in Ukraine looked like. He enlisted in the New Zealand Army in 2002 and went to fight in Ukraine in May, leading a secretive reconnaissance unit that was part of the GUR, an intelligence organization in the Ukrainian military. Efforts are underway to bring his body home.
