Swiss Writer's Homophobic Insult Leads to 60-Day Prison Sentence

A Swiss court has sentenced writer and commentator Alain Bonnet, also known as Alain Soral, to 60 days in prison for defamation, discrimination, and incitement to hatred after he called a journalist a "fat lesbian" in a Facebook video. The decision has been praised by LGBTQ+ groups as a signal that homophobic hatred will not be tolerated. Soral was also ordered to pay legal fees and fines. He plans to appeal the conviction to the Swiss federal court and, if necessary, to the European Court of Human Rights. Soral has previously been convicted in France for denying the Holocaust.
