Swiss Tourist Sentenced to One Year in Bali for Nyepi Mockery
Swiss tourist Luzian Andrin Zgraggen, 26, was sentenced to one year in Denpasar District Court for posting Instagram videos during Nyepi, Bali’s Day of Silence, in which he violated restrictions and described the tradition as 'crazy.' The court said the posts offended Balinese people and sparked public outrage, though the sentence took his youth and good behavior into account; authorities had warned him about Nyepi before his arrest. The offense carries up to five years, and Swiss consular officials are providing support as Indonesian authorities handle the case.
