North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has ordered the launch of the country's first military spy satellite, which he claims has been developed to counter "threats" from the United States and South Korea. Kim urged officials to deploy the satellite as scheduled, but did not provide a launch date. The move comes as the US and South Korean militaries expand their combined drills to beef up their deterrence against North Korea's growing nuclear threats. Pyongyang has conducted about 30 missile tests since the start of this year as Kim looks to modernise and advance the country's military prowess.
