The US Navy is stepping up preparations to deter a potential conflict with China in the Pacific Ocean, where the majority of its submarine force is now located. The USS Mississippi, a nuclear-powered, fast-attack submarine, is armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles and torpedoes, and can carry up to 25 Mark-48 torpedoes. While China has been massively expanding its navy in recent decades, it remains significantly behind the US in nuclear-powered submarines.
