UK Security Investigation Leads to Arrest of Suspected Russian Spies

Three Bulgarian nationals have been arrested and charged in the UK in connection with a major national security investigation, accused of working as suspected spies for Russia. The defendants are charged with possessing fake identity documents for multiple countries, including the UK, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, and the Czech Republic. They were arrested under the Official Secrets Act by counter-terrorism detectives from the Metropolitan Police. The trio, who have lived in the UK for years, are due to go on trial in January. This comes amid increasing concerns about Russian intelligence operations in the UK, following incidents such as the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter in 2018.
