Abortion law reform urged after mother's jail sentence.

Calls for reform of abortion laws have been made after a woman was jailed for taking medication acquired via the "pills by post" scheme introduced during lockdown. Carla Foster was sentenced to 28 months, 14 of which will be spent in custody, under the 1861 law used to prosecute her. Abortion is legal up to 24 weeks, and the procedure must be carried out in a clinic after 10 weeks. Conservative MP Caroline Nokes has called for a debate in Parliament on abortion laws, saying the law used to prosecute Foster was "out of date".
