China hopes Germany supports peaceful reunification with Taiwan amidst rising tensions.

China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed hope that Germany will support China's "peaceful reunification" with Taiwan during a meeting with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. Baerbock stated that any attempt by China to control Taiwan would be unacceptable and have serious repercussions for Europe. Taiwan's Foreign Ministry expressed approval of Baerbock's comments. Germany is developing a new China strategy to reduce dependence on Asia's economic superpower, until now a vital export market for German goods.
