China's Military Ambitions and Taiwan's Uncertain Future.

China's "greatest fear" is that the US will announce that Taiwan is not a part of China, according to Michael Pillsbury, Director of the Center on Chinese Strategy at the Hudson Institute. China has vowed to take "resolute and forceful" measures against Taiwan after its president's meeting with US lawmakers. The US has been urged not to go "further down the wrong and dangerous path" by Beijing's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Bipartisan lawmakers are discussing delayed weapon delivery to Taiwan, which has paid for $19 billion worth of weapons that have never been delivered. Pillsbury warns that the Biden administration is "playing with fire" while China has a "wide range of options" for retaliation.
