German Chancellor Olaf Scholz appealed to China to use its influence on Russia to help end the war in Ukraine, but Chinese Premier Li Qiang focused on deepening trade ties instead. The two leaders met in Berlin to discuss economic and technological cooperation, climate protection, and the transition toward green technologies. Scholz also stressed the importance of China not delivering weapons to Russia and expressed gratitude that Beijing continued to oppose Russia's threats to use nuclear weapons. Li called for expanding cooperation on smart manufacturing, electric cars, and technological exchange, and warned against deglobalization.
