ECOWAS Delegation Fails to Meet Junta Leader in Niger as Tinubu Seeks International Support

A delegation from the West African regional bloc ECOWAS left Niger without meeting the leader of the junta that seized power in a coup, while Niger's coup leaders announced the scrapping of military pacts with France. The junta also lifted the curfew imposed since the coup. The EU condemned the blocking of French media broadcasts in Niger, and Niger's ousted president called for the restoration of his government with the help of the US and international community. ECOWAS defense chiefs discussed possible intervention in Niger as the deadline for the junta to restore constitutional order approaches. The junta warned of an immediate response to any aggression by West African countries.
