Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been sworn in for his third presidential term in Turkey and has reappointed former finance minister Mehmet Simsek to the helm of the economy, indicating a shift towards more conventional economic policies. Erdogan's policy of lowering interest rates to promote growth has been blamed for the country's cost-of-living crisis and inflation. Simsek's appointment is seen as a move away from the "unorthodox" policies. Erdogan also announced Hakan Fidan as foreign minister and Gen. Yasar Guler as defense minister.
