The move has been criticised by colleagues in the government and left-wing critics, who feel it sends the wrong message. However, Schiappa has defended her decision, stating that women in France are free to do what they want with their bodies. Playboy has defended the spread, stating that Schiappa is the most "Playboy compatible" of government ministers.
