German interests clash with Russian arms deal for India - Pistorius

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said it is not in Germany's interest for India to remain dependent on Russian weapons during his tour of the region to shore up defense partnerships. Pistorius also sought closer defense ties with Indonesia and called for negotiation over the Taiwan Strait rivalry. He said Germany will reconsider its export controls to support the defense capacity of "reliable partners" in the region and that he can "absolutely understand" Indonesia's desire to procure new fighter jets.
