Kamala Harris visits Africa to strengthen diplomatic ties and announce security aid.

US Vice President Kamala Harris announced $100m in aid to Ghana and four other West African countries to tackle instability and violence from armed groups. During her visit to Ghana, Harris also raised concerns about a draft bill that would severely restrict LGBT rights in the country. The US aid comes as Washington seeks to counter growing Chinese and Russian influence on the continent. Several countries across West Africa and the Sahel region have been struggling to quell violence by armed groups that have caused humanitarian disasters and fuelled discontent.
