Knesset Committee Considers Expelling Lawmaker Accused of Genocide Allegations

The Knesset Home Committee is debating the possible impeachment of MK Ofer Cassif over his support of South Africa's accusation against Israel of alleged genocide in Gaza. At least 90 members of Knesset must support Cassif's expulsion to proceed to a vote, and the committee has 17 members, so 13 must support the measure for it to pass. Cassif's lawyer argued that his opposition to the war did not equate to support for Hamas, while Cassif himself defended his actions as a wish to end human suffering and pain. The debate is scheduled to continue, and if expelled, Cassif will have the right to appeal the decision to the High Court of Justice.
