Lula's Reshaping of Brazil Stalls at 100 Days

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's first 100 days in office have been marked by progress in social programs, but also weariness and challenges in governing. Lula's coalition government faces internal contradictions and struggles to get projects approved without a solid base in parliament. Lula has been criticised for his crusade against the Central Bank over interest rates and for minimising allegations of corruption against his ministers. Progress on the climate crisis has been slow, with little commitment to substantial emissions reductions. However, Lula has made progress on the Indigenous agenda and in foreign policy, aiming to bolster cooperation among developing countries in the Global South.
