Moldova's Massive Pro-EU Rallies Fuel Push for Membership Amid Russia Fears.

Tens of thousands of Moldovans rallied in support of the country's push to join the EU and break away from Moscow. The rally comes amid warnings that Moscow is doing everything it can to keep the former Soviet republic within its self-declared sphere of influence. Moldova's President Maia Sandu called on the EU to begin accession talks "as soon as possible" to protect Moldova from growing threats from Russia. However, Moldova knows its path to EU membership isn't without obstacles, including a frozen conflict over the breakaway region of Transnistria, which is governed by pro-Moscow separatists.
