NATO Chief Previews Vilnius Summit at White House

Outgoing NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg met with US officials at the White House to preview topics for the upcoming alliance summit in Vilnius, Lithuania. Stoltenberg emphasized the need to sustain and step up support for Ukraine and further strengthen deterrence on defence. Other priorities for the summit include a stronger partnership with countries in the Indo-Pacific region and pushing NATO allies to fulfil a 2006 pledge to commit two percent of their GDPs to defence spending. The Biden administration also announced a new security assistance package for Ukraine worth $325m. Biden and Stoltenberg also indicated their support for welcoming Sweden into the military alliance.
