Putin announces bid for re-election in 2024 Russian presidential race
TL;DR
Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that he will run for a fifth term in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. Putin's decision comes as no surprise, as he is almost certain to win and extend his 24-year leadership of Russia. Critics argue that the election threatens democracy, citing claims of corruption and the imprisonment of opposition leaders. However, independent polling suggests that Putin maintains strong support, with approval ratings above 80%.
