Romania recalls ambassador over racist comparison.

Romania is recalling its ambassador to Kenya and apologizing after he allegedly compared a monkey to African diplomats during a meeting in April. African diplomats formally condemned the comments and demanded an apology. The Romanian foreign ministry said it only learned of the incident on June 8 and hoped it would not affect its relations with African countries. The ambassador sent two apology letters, withdrawing his initial explanation that the comments were meant to "relax the atmosphere."
