Russian Billionaire Timchenko Denies Being Putin's Ally Despite Close Ties

Russian billionaire Gennady Timchenko, a longtime ally of Vladimir Putin, has appealed to the European Union's General Court to lift sanctions imposed on him over the war in Ukraine. Timchenko's lawyer argued that his client's ties to Putin do not make him an ally in the conflict. Timchenko was placed on the EU's sanctions list in February 2022 and hit with asset freezes and a travel ban. He was also sanctioned by the Biden administration in March 2022.
