Taiwan and Guatemala Presidents Strengthen Ties Amid China Pressure.

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen and Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei visited the archaeological site of Tikal in Guatemala, as part of Tsai's trip to shore up Taiwan's ties with its remaining allies in Central America. Honduras broke relations with Taipei a week ago, and other countries in the region have switched their support to China. The trip is aimed at solidifying ties in Latin America as China funnels money into the region and pressures its countries to break off relations with Taiwan.
