Taiwan VP: China's Military Drills Won't Dictate Election Outcome

Taiwan's Vice President William Lai stated that the upcoming election in Taiwan is a choice between democracy and autocracy, following China's military drills around the island in response to Lai's visit to the United States. Taiwan's defense ministry reported that 25 Chinese air force planes crossed the Taiwan Strait's median line in the past 24 hours. Lai emphasized that it is not up to China to decide the election outcome and criticized China's interference in Taiwan's democratic system. China has demanded that Taiwan accept the "one China" principle, but Taiwan has refused. The United States urged China to stop pressuring Taiwan and engage in meaningful dialogue.
