Honduras has announced its decision to switch diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to China, which would leave Taiwan with just 13 nations recognizing it. Beijing has been successful in isolating Taiwan on the world stage as it considers the island a part of its territory. China has used economic leverage to poach Taiwan's allies, especially in Latin America. Despite the dwindling pool of nations that recognize it, Taiwan has deep trade links with Europe and other parts of the world, and the United States remains its main ally.
