Opposition supporters in Turkey are blaming earthquake victims for largely sticking with President Erdogan in the recent elections, despite widespread criticism of the government's handling of the disaster in February. The term “depremzede”, meaning earthquake victim, became a trending topic on Turkish social media following the announcement of the election results. Erdogan's resounding victory in all earthquake-affected cities, with the exception of Hatay, has frustrated opposition supporters, who have taken to social media to insult and swear at the victims.
