Ukraine denounces Russia's UN Security Council presidency as a "joke"

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has criticized Russia's takeover of the United Nations Security Council as "the world's worst April Fool's joke." Russia, which is accused of war crimes, has taken over the council's presidency, whose primary responsibility is maintaining international peace. Ukraine's presidential adviser Mykhaylo Podolyak also condemned Russia's assumption of the council presidency, calling it "another rape of international law." A warrant was issued last month for Putin's arrest for war crimes by the International Criminal Court. The last time Russia headed the council was in February 2022, the month when it invaded Ukraine.
