A team of scientists from The University of Queensland discovered a new species of giant anaconda, believed to be the largest in the world, in the Amazon of Ecuador while filming a Disney+ docuseries called 'Pole to Pole with Will Smith.' The nearly 10 million-year-old species, named the northern green anaconda, was found with the help of the indigenous Huaorani people and measures up to 6.3 meters long. The discovery sheds light on the unique genetic differences between anaconda species in different basins of the Amazon and raises concerns about pollutants in the ecosystem.
