Malaysian climber Ravichandran Tharumalingam is facing social media backlash for failing to properly thank Gelje Sherpa, the man who rescued him from certain death on Mount Everest. Gelje and his Chinese client found the climber in the "death zone" of the mountain and conducted a rescue, while several other climbers failed to stop. Ravichandran's social media posts failed to mention Gelje, leading to criticism from followers. He eventually mentioned Gelje in a post, but placed his name among employees of 14th Peaks Expedition, rather than properly acknowledging his own company, AGA Adventures.
