Asian Americans Face Identity Struggles and Health Concerns, According to Reports

A new report by the Pew Research Center shows that about 1 in 5 Asian Americans in the US have hidden details about their heritage from non-Asians, including ethnic food, clothing, and cultural and religious practices, out of fear of discrimination or awkward questions. The survey also highlights the diversity among Asian identity in the US, with about half of respondents often describing themselves by ethnic labels and friendships varying depending on place of birth. The report comes amid a recent rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans, with reported incidents rising 164% in 2021.
