Nepalese Sherpa sets new record with 27th Mount Everest summit

Nepalese climber Kami Rita Sherpa has climbed Mount Everest for the 27th time, reclaiming the record for the most summits of the world’s highest mountain. Nepal is home to eight of the world’s 10 highest peaks, including Everest, and welcomes hundreds of adventurers each spring. Authorities have issued 478 permits to foreign climbers this year, with more than 900 people attempting to reach the summit this season. Sherpas’ mountaineering expertise and local knowledge are critical to the safe passage of the hundreds of climbers who ascend Everest every year.
