A water charity has warned that the Seine river, where water events are set to take place during the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, has alarming levels of dangerous bacteria, including E.coli. The Surfrider Foundation Europe performed tests showing poor water quality, urging stakeholders to take action before the games kick off in July. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo has plans to create public bathing areas in the Seine next year, and has made cleaning up the river a key legacy achievement of the Paris Olympics, with significant investment already made in upgrading storm water treatment and sewage facilities.
